The Conscious Mother
by Kirstin Bouse
with foreword by
Care Baby Expert, Pinky McKay
Research in the area of maternal and infant mental health has reinforced what we already know; mothers who are sensitive, attuned and responsive to their babies create the relationship milieu for optimum brain development.
The Conscious Mother: Finding the Natural Mother in You takes mothers on a journey of self-exploration to prepare them for, and support them through, motherhood. It is designed to hold your hand as you explore your own history of being mothered, your own beliefs about mothering and the hopes and dreams you have for yourself and your baby.
Becoming a mother is a profound life-changing experience and one which can provide enormous personal growth.
The Conscious Mother: Finding the Natural Mother in You is packed full of useful information about how to maximise your growth and avoid the pitfalls of your past so you can create a more mindful and positive bond with your little one. It takes you on a journey of self-discovery, guiding you in how to know and accept yourself so that you can be the ultimate parent; the purposely imperfect mother. The mother who can love and nurture her children, allow herself to make mistakes and love herself despite them.
About Kirstin Bouse
Kirstin is a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist with 20-years’ experience in her profession. She has been fortunate to forge a truly interesting career, spending as much time working with clients at the ‘pointy end’ as the everyday person.
She began her career in men’s prisons in Perth, working with generalist, violent and sexual offenders. Although she continued in this area, she then moved on to work in area of Family Court and Child Protection as a Court Expert.
Over the past 12 years, Kirstin has expanded her private practice beyond the ‘forensic’ arena. She now has a team of nine psychologists in two locations: Bedford and Wembley. Together, Kirstin and her team provide a wide range of psychological assessment and counselling services to children, adolescents and adults, individuals, couples and families. They provide these services direct to clients and also on behalf of various government and private organisations.
However, working in the area of Family Court and Child Protection and becoming a parent herself, sparked Kirstin’s interest in parenting. In particular, Kirstin has spent a large portion of her career seeking to understand and support others to apply (and apply herself) what type of parenting best supports a child’s development.
Kirstin and her team work with mothers who struggle to provide a protective environment for their children and who have significant difficulty parenting due to their own trauma histories. She works with the women who experience peri-natal depression and/or anxiety as well as mothers who just want to do it better.
Kirstin lives and breathes mothering and is determined to help women find their own ‘best mother’ within themselves.
The experiences of all the mothers in her life, along with a strong desire to support as many mothers as possible, planted the seed for The Conscious Mother. And so she wrote the book and began to develop The Conscious Mother programs.
Over the next 12 months Kirstin plans to create a community of like-minded psychologists to support mothers around Australia.
